Will my insurance cover my Physiotherapy care?
Yes. Most health insurance policies include Physiotherapy treatment. Contact your insurance company first to see whether you are covered. Mike Squirrell Physiotherapy & Sports Injury Clinic is registered with all insurance companies including BUPA and AXA-PPP for the provision of Physiotherapy as well as Complementary Health Care provision with treatments like Acupuncture. When you come for your first visit with us, please bring your health insurance policy membership number and pre-authorisation code if you have one.
Do I need a referral from my GP to see a Physio?
No. Physiotherapists are primary health providers and as such can be consulted directly for treatment. However, some health insurance providers require you to have a GP referral letter and a pre-authorisation code prior to starting your Physiotherapy treatment with us. Contact your insurance company for specific details on your policy.
How many treatments will I need?
The number of treatments needed varies from person to person. For chronic conditions, weekly treatment is usual until a good response is achieved. This may take 6 to 12 treatments, but sometimes, longer treatment may be necessary. Once there is no further improvement, treatment intervals will be spaced further apart to maintain the benefit. For acute problems fewer visits are usually necessary.
What is the difference between a Physiotherapist and a Chiropractor/Osteopath?
Depending on the techniques used by each professional, treatment with Physiotherapy vs. Chiropractic/Osteopath can be quite a similar or very different experience. In the UK each profession tends to use mobilization and manipulation techniques to naturally ease body dysfunction and promote healing. Physiotherapists, in addition to these manual techniques, include massage therapy, electrotherapy, Pilates, acupuncture, strength retraining and exercise rehabilitation as well in treatment and have a strong bias towards permanent and lasting rehabilitation of your injuries.
Do you treat children?
